UCLA continues to place student success and inclusive excellence at the forefront with the opening of the Latinx Success Center on Cesar Chavez Day, March 31. 

The space’s ribbon-cutting ceremony and outdoor opening celebration, “Floreciendo en Comunidad,” will feature remarks by Chancellor Julio Frenk and other members of the UCLA community, as well as performances from Las Cafeteras, Mariachi de Uclatlán and Danza Azteca Tonatiuh.

With about 40% of Californians and 24.2% of UCLA undergraduates identifying as Latino, the resource center is part of the university’s efforts to reach benchmarks to become a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and is part of a commitment to ensure that all Bruins — including Latino, first-generation and low-income students — can reach their highest potential.

The center will serve as a campus hub focused on improving student achievement, academic outcomes and overall college experiences, with academic and advising services as well as leadership and mentorship programs among its many offerings.

Chancellor Julio Frenk says:

“It is critical that UCLA be a place of belonging — a place where everyone is valued, and everyone adds value. The opening of this center is part of our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where all students can thrive.”

Elizabeth Gonzalez, inaugural director of UCLA’s HSI Initiative adds:

“This work will show the community they belong at UCLA,” she said. “And that UCLA is not just in Los Angeles, but of Los Angeles.”
