UCLA faculty members Andrea Goldman, Dr. Ippolytos Kalofonos and Joshua Dienstag have been awarded fellowships by the American Council of Learned Societies.
The ACLS Fellowship Program awards individual scholars working in the humanities and related social sciences. The fellowships are intended to replace salaries and provide scholars with the opportunity to devote six to 12 continuous months to full-time research.
Goldman is an associate professor and vice chair for undergraduate affairs in the history department. She specializes in the cultural and social history of early modern and modern China, with particular emphasis on the subfields of urban history, performance, the politics of aesthetics, and gender studies.
Kalofonos is an assistant professor of psychiatry. His research interests include community mental health, local responses to mental illness, and social determinants of health. Kalofonos is interested in looking at psychosocial approaches to severe mental illness and at ways of decreasing medication burden and improving life expectancy for people diagnosed with severe mental illness.
Dienstag is a professor of political science and law at UCLA. His research focuses largely on European political theory between the 17th and 19th centuries. Dienstag has written articles that have appeared in the American Political Science Review and The Journal of Politics.
