UCLA Labor Center’s Ana Muniz recently published a new book, “Power, Police, and the Production of Racial Boundaries.” In her book, Muniz utilizes her five years of ethnographic field work with the LAPD, city prosecutors, community groups and business owners to demonstrate how politically powerful groups struggle to control who should be considered dangerous, gang members and “deviants,” and how they should be policed in Los Angeles.
Muniz was a Soros Justice Fellow at the Open Society Foundation and Youth Justice Coalition. She is the director of the Dream Resource Center at the UCLA Labor Center.
