The UCLA Hammer Museum presents an eclectic program of music, curated by pianist Gloria Cheng, Grammy Award-winning pianist and UCLA faculty member in the Department of Music, on Tuesday, April 12, 7:30 p.m.
"Everything We Do is Music: Music from Black Mountain College," conducted by Nicholas Jacobson-Larson, features the music of composers John Cage, Lou Harrison, Ernst Krenek, Erik Satie, Arnold Schoenberg and Stefan Wolpe. Performers include Cheng, Mikhail Korzhev and Aron Kallay on piano; Jean Ferrandis on flute; Jennifer Johnson on oboe; Kyung-Hee Kim-Sutre on harp; Yuri Inoo on percussion; and the Lyris Quartet of violinists Alyssa Park and Shalini Vijayan, violist Luke Maurer and cellist Timothy Loo.
The program is related to the current Hammer exhibition, “Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College 1933-1957,” the first comprehensive museum exhibition in the United States about the experimental liberal arts college where influential artists such as John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg, Josef and Anni Albers and Merce Cunningham studied and taught.
Open to the general public and free of charge. Complimentary coffee and tea will follow the concert.
