The Hammer Museum at UCLA is hosting a reading of author Alice McDermott’s “The Ninth Hour” on Tuesday April 24.
The story follows three generations of an Irish immigrant family in the 1940s in Brooklyn. McDermott is a National Book Award winner and the author of seven prior novels. She is the Richard A. Macksey Professor of the Humanities at Johns Hopkins University.
The reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Billy Wilder Theater inside the Hammer Museum and will be followed by a discussion with McDermott and Mona Simpson, professor of English at UCLA. There will be coffee tea, and a book signing with the author after the discussion.
This event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. General admission tickets are available one per person on a first come, first served basis following member ticketing. Early arrival is recommended.
