The Los Angeles Times Book Club comes to UCLA on Sunday, April 26, for a discussion on “The Boys of Summer,” a book by Roger Kahn about the reign of Jackie Robinson and other members of the Brooklyn Dodgers of the 1950s.
Robinson, a UCLA alumnus, broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947 and went on to become a civil rights leader.
Author Kahn, Dodger great Maury Wills and L.A. Times sports columnist Bill Plaschke will participate in a conversation moderated by Mickey Kantor, a former U.S. secretary of commerce and avid baseball fan.

Robinson starred in four sports at UCLA between 1939-41. He went on to earn Rookie of the Year and MVP honors, a World Series title and a place in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
In his honor, UCLA has named 22 facilities the Jackie Robinson Athletics and Recreation Complex and retired his number 42 across all sports.
