Professor Barbara Kruger of the department of art has been selected by the J. Paul Getty Museum to work with hundreds of students from LAUSD Title I high schools on a collaborative project titled, “Whose Values?”
Presented by the Getty Artists Program in the museum’s education department, the project is inspired by one of the provocative questions that Kruger, renowned for her work on addressing injustice through art, has asked in her work.
The multi-month project will combine art and writing projects connected to themes of social justice, identity, race, gender and advocacy. With the involvement of Getty staff, Kruger will facilitate discussion with participating students to support advocacy through art, allowing students to contextualize their own experience through artistic mediums.
