Professor Sudipto Banerjee, chair of the department of biostatistics in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been awarded a 2015 Distinguished Achievement Medal by the American Statistical Association for his contributions to environmental statistics.
Banerjee has conducted extensive research on the hierarchical modeling of complex spatial and spatio-temporal and applied his data to the fields of environmental exposure, environmental health and forestry. The award also recognized him for his leadership in teaching and mentoring students.
In addition, Banerjee was elected a fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics for his methodological findings in statistics and for his interest in developing challenging environmental and biomedical applications.
Banerjee recently served as the presidential speaker at the 2015 Western North American Region’s International Biometric Society annual meeting.
