The Middle East Librarians Association presented the 2016 David H. Partington Award to David Hirsch, a UCLA librarian who specializes in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies.
The award recoginizes members who have displayed a high standard of excellence and accomplishments in the field of Middle East librarianship. Also honored with the award was Roberta Dougherty of Yale University. They were presented with the award last November at the association's meeting in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Hirsch has been a UCLA librarian for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies since 1989. He also works in the fields of Judaica and Armenian studies, Central Asian studies and South Asian studies. During his career, he has worked with the Abu Dhabi National Library, theAbu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA, among many institutions.
He has presented lectures and workshops for the Department of State in the UAE, Oman, Senegal and Mali.
