UCLA students, faculty and staff rolled away with 120 free bicycles and a wide assortment of build-your-own-bike parts on Bike (Re)Cycling Day, Sunday, Oct. 19, held on the rooftop of Parking Structure 8.
The lucky recipients -- 160 of them -- were selected in advance from hundreds of hopefuls in a lottery. Everyone was entitled to one bike each, or parts amounting to one bicycle. The event was presented by UCLA Transportation and the UCLA Police Department, which provided its collection of abandoned bikes picked up on campus throughout the year.
UCLA Bike Shop technicians were on-hand to provide winners with tune-ups and diagnose any repairs required to make the bikes rideable.
