Professor Kal Raustiala has been appointed faculty director of the International Education Office (IEO) in his capacity as associate vice provost for international studies.
The IEO is the administrative home for the Education Abroad Program, Summer Travel Study, Summer Sessions international programs and international student exchange programs.
As faculty director, Professor Kal Raustiala will oversee the IEO through academic year 2014-2015. In this role, he will ensure that there is appropriate faculty guidance in IEO programs and planning. He will work with Executive Director Hadyn Dick on all matters and policies of international education, advocate for rigorous international programs and expand meaningful overseas educational experience for all UCLA students.
For the past seven years, Professor Raustiala has led a UCLA Global Studies Summer Travel Study program in New York City, focused on the work of the United Nations.
In announcing Raustiala's appointment, Interim Vice Provost for International Studies Cindy Fan said she was grateful to Professor Teo Ruiz for directing the IEO from 2010 to 2013. During that time, he spearheaded new travel study programs and the establishment of an advisory committee to assess the pedagogical benefits of these new offerings.
