Volunteers remove graffiti at Topanga Lookout in Calabasas.
The Volunteer Leadership Program, a collaborative effort between the UCLA Volunteer Center and the Alumni Scholars Club, sent a busload of students, alumni, and staff to each of two "One Bus, One Cause" community service events last weekend. On Saturday, Feb. 22, they headed to Mark Twain Middle School in Venice/Mar Vista, where they helped care for the school garden, which is used in the "Seed to Plate" program promoting healthy food, physical and mental well-being and providing hands-on gardening and eating experiences for students and families.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, participants took part in restoration projects at the Topanga Lookout in Calabasas and learned from representatives of the Mountains Restoration Trust (MRT) about plants native to the area and harmful invasive plant species, as well as about the impact of litter runoff on the fragile watershed ecosystem.

The Volunteer Leadership Program gives students the opportunity to work directly with the Center by planning and leading their own community service projects in Los Angeles. Learn more at the website. Visit the UCLA Volunteer Center website for information on this and other programs.
