John Caldwell delivered the keynote lecture at European Communication Research and Education Association's (ECREA) annual conference. The meeting took place at Aarhus University in Copenhagen from Oct. 24-26. 
 
Caldwell is a professor at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television in the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media. He recieved his M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts and his Ph. D. from Northwestern University. His critical and theoretical writings have been published extensively in film and media journals, and he recently wrote a chapter for the book "Behind the Screen: Inside European Production Cultures."
 
He is also the creator of two documentaries, which have been praised and screened widely at festivals from Amstedam to New York and Hawaii. He has been a scholar in residence at the Annenberg School for Communications at the University of Pennsylvania and a fellow at Bauhaus University, Weimar. Caldwell's past keynote lectures include talks at Yale, Stockholm and Shanghai universities.
 
ECREA is a scholarly association centered on the study of media, telecommunications and informatics research that strives to promote quality of communication research and teaching in higher education accross Europe.
