The UCLA Film and Television Archive will be closing out its film series, “Through Indian Eyes: Native American Cinema,” with the screening of “California Indian” on Monday, Dec.15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Billy Wilder Theater in the UCLA Hammer Museum.
The film's director, Timothy Ramos, outlines the political and social issues that have arisen alongside the growth of casinos on reservation lands by examining a native community’s dealings with a shady casino investor, who wants to obtain gaming rights from the tribe.
The film series focuses on screening Native American films that promote accurate images of Native American issues. Sponsored by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, this film series highlights the representation for American Indians in cinema, a medium in which they have long been excluded.
