Robert Gurval, associate professor of classics in the UCLA College, received the Eugen Weber Honors Collegium Faculty Award for teaching in the Honors Collegium at UCLA. Gurval’s research explores the intersections of politics and literature in the Augustan Age and early empire.
His interests include Latin literature, ancient biography, Roman numismatics, and the reception of Classics in popular culture. His current project examines the construction of Cleopatra as a myth and image from antiquity to the 21st century.
Gurval is a past recipient of the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award and the American Philological Excellence in Teaching Award.
