UCLA Athletics Director Dan Guerrero has been selected as one of four Football Bowl Subdivision winners of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) 2013-14 Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year Award. The award program was created to honor intercollegiate directors of athletics for their commitment and administrative excellence within a campus and/or college community environment. This is the third time Guerrero has received this award. He previously won at UCLA in 2006-07 and at UC Irvine in 2001
Noted the NACDA in its announcement, "Dan Guerrero has established a pattern of 'image and substance' that few can match." An accomplished and decorated administrator, Guerrero has seen his program win 24 NCAA titles in his 12 years at UCLA, including two in the past 12 months. In June of 2013, baseball, a sport in which Guerrero starred as a student-athlete at UCLA, claimed its first-ever National Championship. Months later, women’s soccer capped a remarkable tournament run by earning UCLA's 110th NCAA title.
UCLA’s academic success under Guerrero is equally noteworthy. UCLA's Graduation Success Rate (GSR) continued its consistent rise this academic year. The Bruin student-athlete GSR is currently at 87 percent, up 3 percent from a year ago. Five teams (men’s and women’s tennis, women’s basketball, softball and women’s water polo) achieved a GSR of 100 percent. UCLA had the second-highest overall GSR in the Pac-12 at 87 percent, while the football team also had the second-highest GSR in the Pac-12 with 82 percent.
Guerrero will receive the award on June 11 at NACDA's 49th annual convention in Orlando.
