Dr. Linda Rosenstock, professor of health policy and management as well as environmental science at the Fielding School of Public Health, has received the New York Academy of Medicine's 2016 Stephen Smith Award for Distinguished Contributions in Public Health.
Rosenstock served as dean of the Fielding School from 2000-2012. Prior to joining UCLA, she served as the director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for nearly seven years, where she led a staff of 1,500 at the only federal agency mandated to undertake research and prevention activities in occupational safety and health. She was instrumental in creating the National Occupational Research Agenda, a framework for guiding occupational safety and health research, and she expanded the agency's responsibilities and staff size and doubled the Institute's annual appropriations. In recognition of her efforts, Rosenstock received the Presidential Distinguished Executive Rank Award, the highest executive service award in the government.
Dr. Rosenstock earned her M.D. and M.P.H. at Johns Hopkins University. She received advanced training at the University of Washington, where she was active in clinical practice of both general internal medicine and occupational and environmental medicine, served as chief resident in primary care internal medicine and was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar.
