A team of volunteers from the UCLA School of Dentistry put their extensive training and skills to work on Saturday, Nov. 22, when they provided free dental treatment to nearly 100 adults and children during the second annual Treatment Day at the school's Westwood clinics. Among the services provided by the more than 80 dental students, residents and supervising faculty were radiographs, regular and deep cleanings, extractions, biopsies, fillings, root canal treatments, pediatric dental care and long-term treatment planning.
The program was made possible through a partnership between the School of Dentistry and Wilshire Bank, which serves multi-ethnic small and mid-sized business communities. Last year, the bank pledged $100,000 for a five-year period to the dental school to provide free services to members of the community who don't have regular dental care. The ultimate goal of Treatment Day was to introduce patients to UCLA's wide variety of general and specialized dental clinics and get them on track to improved oral health and access to quality, affordable care.
