Guided mindfulness meditations by Diana Winston, director of Mindfulness Education at UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC), are now available for television viewing by patients, visitors and staff at UCLA hospitals and medical clinics in Westwood, and will soon also be available at UCLA’s Santa Monica health care locations.

Winston's narration of the meditations, which include “Basic Mindfulness: Body, Sound and Breath,” “Body Scan,” “Loving Kindness,” “Working with Difficulties” and “Tibetan Singings Bowls,”  is accompanied by photographs of beautiful nature scenes. The non-denominational meditations are not a clinical or medical treatment, but they may be helpful for general relaxation and stress relief as well as an adjunct to the UCLA Health System’s Urban Zen Integrative Therapy.

Winston spent a year as a Buddhist nun in Burma and has been practicing mindfulness meditation since 1989. She has taught mindfulness since 1993, bringing mindful awareness into schools, hospitals and nonprofits, as well as to adolescents, seniors, leaders, teachers, activists and health professionals in the United States and Asia.

Guided meditations by Winston are also available at this MARC site, where you can listen online or download podcasts. You're also invited to attend free drop-in meditation sessions led by Winston and other teachers at locations around campus.
