Dr. Earl Freymiller, the Bob and Marion Wilson Endowed Chair and professor of clinical dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry, was presented with an award by the San Diego Rotarians for his more than two-decade commitment to improving the lives of underserved children in Ensenada, Mexico.
Freymiller serves as a volunteer surgeon with the Thousand Smiles Foundation, which sends missions to Mexico four times a year. He has performed surgery on more than 100 children with cleft lips and palate deformities which, if left untreated, can lead to ear infections, hearing problems and poor speech development, among numerous other difficulties.
A member of UCLA Dentistry's faculty since 1989, Freymiller chairs the school’s Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Division of Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences. He also serves as chief of the Dental Service at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. He earned his D.D.S. and M.D. degrees at Harvard University.
