Dr. Warren S. Grundfest has been selected by the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) as the 2014 recipient of the Pierre Galletti Award, the institute's highest honor.
A professor of bioengineering, electrical engineering and surgery at UCLA, Grundfest has previously been named in 100 Notable People in the Medical Device Industry and is the author of more than 120 scientific papers and nearly 300 scientific presentations. His research focuses on minimally invasive surgery using X-ray, ultrasound, optical, or magnetic resonance imaging techniques.
In honoring Grundfest, AIMBE noted his tireless advocacy for public awareness of medical and biological engineering and the promotion of national interest in science, engineering, and education. He has chaired AIMBE Council of Societies, as well as the organization’s Advocacy Committee, which he currently co-chairs. He is a fellow in several presitigious organizations in his field, including the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery.
AIMBE is a non-profit organization representing 50,000 individuals and the top 2 percent of medical and biological engineers. It represents academic institutions, private industry, and other professional engineering societies.
