Jennifer Jay, professor of environmental engineering at UCLA, received the 2019 Lockheed Martin Award for excellence in teaching from the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering in recognition of her work incorporating a service-learning component in her classes and teaching a course on food in relation to the environment.
The award honors the achievements of senior faculty members in the engineering school who have provided innovative teaching methods, curriculum development and academic support. Jay’s research integrates field and laboratory approaches to better understand the geochemical and microbial processes that influence contaminants in the environment. She currently serves on the National Water Research Institute’s advisory panel and was named Pritzker Fellow for environmental sustainability in 2011 and 2012.
