Catherine Opie, fine arts photographer and photography professor at UCLA, discusses her life and work at Annenberg Space for Photography’s Skylight Studios, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, as part of Iris Nights lecture series.
Ranging in format from large-scale color works to smaller black-and-white prints, Opie’s iconic work includes portraits and American urban landscape. Her photos have been exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally.
Opie has received numerous awards, including the Smithsonian Archives of American Art Medal in 2016, Julius Shulman Institute Award for Photography in 2013, Women’s Caucus for Art: President’s Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2009 and United States Artists Fellowship in 2006, among others.
Opie is currently working on a monumental installation for the new Los Angeles Federal Courthouse, which will debut next summer.
