Four faculty from the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies have recceived awards from the American Educational Research Association (AERA), a national research society, strives to advance knowledge about education and promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good.
Walter Allen, Distinguished Professor, Allan Murray Cartter Professor of Higher Education, has been honored with AERA’s 2016 Scholar of Color Distinguished Career Contribution Award. His research and teaching interests include comparative race, ethnicity and inequality, diversity in higher education and family studies.
Mitchell Chang, professor of education in UCLA Education’s Higher Education and Organizational Change Division, has been selected as an AERA Fellow. His research focuses on the educational efficacy of diversity-related initiatives on college campuses, and the application of those best practices toward advancing student learning and democratizing institutions.
Robert Cooper, director of the UCLA Education Studies minor, has been recognized with the AERA Exemplary Contributions to Practice-Engaged Research Award. Cooper also serves as the faculty director of UCLA Education’s Principal Leadership Institute.
Professor John Rogers will be honored with the AERA Presidential Citation Award. Rogers serves as faculty director of UCLA Education’s Center X and director of UCLA’s Institute for Democracy, Education and Access.
