Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA will host a St. Baldrick’s Foundation signature head-shaving event on Friday, August 22, at 2 p.m.,to raise funds and awareness for lifesaving childhood cancer research. The goal is to raise $5,000. So far, nearly 20 participants have registered to shave their heads.
The event was organized by UCLA undergraduate Anant Randhawa, who was inspired by his own family members who have suffered and fought the disease. Members of Musicians on Call will volunteer and play a free concert at the hour-long event this Friday.
The volunteer-driven St. Baldrick’s Foundation is dedicated to raising money for the most promising research initiatives to find cures. It is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. Volunteers collect pledges and then shave their heads in solidarity with children fighting cancer.
