Dr. Jonathan Fielding, distinguished professor of health policy and management in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, was appointed a member of the National Academies committee on a national strategy for cancer control in the United States.
According to the National Academies, the committee was created to develop a strategy for reducing cancer rates in the U.S. In June 2019, the group published a report, “Guiding Cancer Control: A Path to Transformation,” which presents recommendations for decreasing cancer-related deaths and improving the quality of life for people who have cancer.
Fielding, who is also a professor of pediatrics, is founding co-director of the UCLA Center for Health Advancement, which provides enhanced analysis and evidence-based information to help policy makers decide which programs can best reduce health disparities. Previously, he served as director and health officer of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
