UCLA staff members Teresa Ibarra and Janice Shintaku have received the External Affairs Impact Award, which recognizes employees who “go above and beyond in their efforts to deliver excellent service in every interaction with alumni, donors, faculty, supporters and fellow staff members.”
Ibarra and Shintaku were recognized by hundreds of colleagues during an award presentation earlier this month. The award carries a cash prize of $2,000.
Ibarra is the associate director of finance and business services in External Affairs' department of advancement services, which provides administrative, financial and technology services and is a key partner in major initiatives. She has been a member of the UCLA staff for 30 years — 20 of them with External Affairs. Colleagues who nominated Ibarra for the award lauded her for providing outstanding service with expertise, patience, kindness and understanding, as well as for promoting a culture of learning.
Shintaku, director of events for UCLA College Development for the past 3½ years, works with College administrators, faculty and the development team to create and manage a wide range of special events. Colleagues who nominated her for the Impact Award praised her ‘can do’ approach to solving problems and and noted, “Janice has built a strong sense of teamwork and has helped make College Development an environment where people enjoy coming to work every day.”
