Jeffrey Butler has been appointed to the newly created position of chief administrative officer of the UCLA Health Faculty Practice Group (FPG), effective April 1. In this critical role, he will oversee the clinical operations for all FPG-managed practices, as well as operational support functions, including human resources.

Butler has served in several leadership positions since joining the UCLA Health System in 2008. Since 2012, he has been executive director of the FPG’s Ambulatory Services. In this position, he has overseen unprecedented growth in UCLA Health’s ambulatory presence throughout the Los Angeles region and led efforts to improve the patient experience in those practices. In addition, he was instrumental in the integration of the Entertainment Industry Medical Group (formerly the Motion Picture and Television Fund Medical Group) into the FPG. He also previously served as executive director for UCLA Health’s Clinical Services, was responsible for the development of the Breast Cancer Integrated Practice Unit in Santa Monica and served as chief administrative officer for the department of radiation oncology.

Butler earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and his master’s in health services administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, where he chaired the Leadership Council in Health Management and Policy. Prior to joining UCLA, he spent two years at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Boston.
