Jody Heymann, dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and Fernando Torres-Gil, professor of social welfare and public policy at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, are contributing authors in the new book “The Upside of Aging: How Long Life is Changing the World of Health, Work, Innovation, Policy, and Purpose" (WIley, 2014), edited by Paul Irving, president of the Milken Institute think tank.

"The Upside of Aging, " a collaboration between renowned scholars on aging, examines the changing definition of aging revolutions in genomics, technology and medicine and how these developments continue to expand the average human lifespan. Each chapter features one contributing author’s knowledge of a specific aspect of aging, ranging from the characteristics of an aging brain to the role of aging workers in society to the factors of accommodating an increasing mature population.

Heymann, an internationally renowned researcher on health and social policy, contributed the chapter, "The Mature Workforce: Profiting from All Abilities." Torres-Gil, director of the UCLA Center for Policy Research on Aging, contributed "Aging in a Majority-Minority Nation."
