John Hawkins, UCLA professor emeritus of education in the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSEIS), delivered keynote addresses on issues in higher education in during a recent visit to Asia to promote his book, “Regionalization and Governance in Asia Pacific Higher Education: Implications for Governance, Citizenship, and University Transformation” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). Hawkins spoke at J.F. Oberlin University in Tokyo, National Chung Cheng University in Taiwan and Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City.
He also addressed the Hong Kong Institute of Education in Sha Tin where, as co-director of the Asian Pacific Higher Education Research Partnership, co-hosted a seminar on higher education massification in Asia that was attended by senior academics and administrators from 11 key universities throughout Asia.
Hawkins was also recently awarded a contract to co-edit “The Palgrave Handbook of Asia Pacific Higher Education.” Due for release by Palgrave Macmillan in 2015, it will be the first handbook to cover higher education in the region in 20 years.
