The UCLA Hammer Museum presents a work-in-progress screening of “What Tomorrow Brings,” the story of the first all-girls' school in a remote Afghan village, 7:30-9:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 17.
Directed by Beth Murphy, the film traces the inter-connected stories of students, teachers, village elders, parents and tenacious school founder Razia Jan who teaches a nation, a community and the students themselves that girls also count. While the girls learn to read and write, their education goes far beyond the classroom to become lessons about tradition and time. They discover their school is the one place they can turn to understand the differences between the lives they were born into and the lives they dream of leading.
The screening will be followed by an audience feedback session with the director.
The event is free, but tickets are required and available at the Hammer's Billy Wilder Theater box office one hour before the program. One ticket per person; first come, first served. Early arrival is recommended.
