The UCLA Film and Television Archive screens the television play "Black Monday" and an episode of "East Side/West Side" at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 19 at the UCLA Hammer Museum's Billy Wilder Theater.
"Black Monday," which featured Robert Redford, first aired in 1961 as the first entry in the anthology, "Play of the Week." It tells the story, from three different perspectives, of an African American child's integration into an all-white school in the deep South. The teleplay was written by "12 Angry Men" screenwriter Reginald Rose.
This will be followed by a showing of the Emmy Award-winning "Who Do You Kill?" episode of the 1963 series "East Side/West Side." The controversial episode deals with race and poverty in Harlem, and features James Earl Jones.
