Bestselling author and meditation teacher Pema Chödrön and Grammy Award-winning recording artist and Buddhist practitioner k.d. lang will provide guidance on how to live a well-balanced life at 8 p.m., Saturday, June 20 at UCLA's Royce Hall. According to the event program, both women are “instruments of the dharma" and will help attendees find happiness within oneself and practice peace in life.
The evening will commence with a discussion with Chödrön, who will share her insights into life's “big questions” — such as dealing with life’s uncertainty and the unknown — along with practical assistance in becoming more vulnerable, authentic and present with ourselves and with each other. Lang will talk about her personal approach to creativity and explain how trust, devotion and surrender are key components of that process. Expect a special musical performance by Lang, who will offer a selection of songs with a piano accompaniment.
The event will be moderated by Tami Simon on behalf of Sounds True, a multimedia publishing company that advocates spiritual awakening. Eighty percent of all proceeds will go to Tools for Peace — a mindfulness, meditation and compassion-building program — and the Pema Chödrön Foundation, which helps to fund Chödrön’s teaching.
