The UCLA Film and Television Archive presents a screening of the remastered 1985 film, “Before Stonewall: The Making of a Gay and Lesbian Community,” on Saturday, June 25, 7:30 at the Billy Wilder Theater at the UCLA Hammer Museum. The screening is the latest in the archive’s Outfest UCLA Legacy Project.
“Before Stonewall” depicts modern LGBT history as an epic story of sweep and grandeur, chronicling the formation of urban gay enclaves, connections between servicemen and women in wartime, and early queer political organizations. Rich in archival resources — some originally sourced from UCLA — the film also features commentary by Audre Lorde, Harry Hay and Allen Ginsberg, among others.
In person at the screening will be director/producer Greta Schiller and producer Robert Rosenberg.
