Dr. Justin Wagner, an associate professor of surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, has been inducted as an associate member into the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. He was inducted Sept. 19 during an event in Chicago.
Wagner, a board-certified pediatric surgeon, earned his medical degree from the USC Keck School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at UCLA and his fellowship in pediatric general and thoracic surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center of Omaha. His research focuses on surgical education, training innovation and engineering novel treatments for gastrointestinal motility disorders.
“I’m honored and grateful to be welcomed into the academy,” Wagner said. “This was only possible because of my UCLA colleagues and teammates who care for our patients and who put so much effort into educating our students and trainees. I’m looking forward to working with the academy to amplify their work and to keep improving how we teach surgery.”
The ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators works to advance the science and practice of education across all surgical specialties. Individuals are selected as members, associate members or affiliate members, following a rigorous peer review process. The Academy was founded in 2018 and now includes 458 members representing 13 surgical specialties from 32 states and nine countries.
