Kang Wang, Distinguished Professor and Raytheon Chair in Electrical Engineering at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, is the recipient of the 2015 Pan Wen Yuan Outstanding Research Award. The Pan Wen Yuan Foundation, named for one of the founders of Taiwan's integrated circuit industry, honors outstanding researchers of Chinese descent who have made theoretical innovations, developed experimental techniques and enhanced production process or instrument production according to international standards. The award also recognizes leadership excellence in overseeing large-scale or integrative projects in electronics, information technology, telecommunication and other areas.
Kang accepted the award during a June 23 ceremony at the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He was recognized for his contributions in semiconductor materials and devices, which have had an enormous impact in the semiconductor industry. Most notable are his contributions that have paved the way for new directions in nanoarchitectures for information processing. His leadership and fundamental contributions in semiconductor/nanoelectronics research have had a significant impact in both academia and industry.
