Kathleen L. Komar, UCLA professor of comparative literature, has been selected to receive the 2014 Oliver Johnson Award for Distinguished Leadership from the UC Academic Council and the Assembly of the Academic Senate. The award is presented every other year to faculty who have shown sustained excellence in serving the Academic Senate at the systemwide and divisional levels and exceptional abilities in working effectively with different university constituents, and whose contributions have had a demonstrable and significant impact on faculty governance.
UC Academic Senate Chair William Jacob, in announcing the award, said that the senate is indebted to Komar for her exceptional record of service at both the Los Angeles Division and at the systemwide level, including her service as the 2004-05 chair of the UCLA Academic Senate; member of the Academic Advisory Committee in the 2007 search for a new UC president; chair of the Academic Advisory Committee in the 2006 search for a new UCLA chancellor; chair of the UCLA Council on Academic Personnel; member of the UCLA Senate Executive Board and the UCLA Undergraduate Council; and advisory member to the UCLA Graduate Council and its Committee on Degree Programs.
Also selected for the award this year is Dr. Joel Dimsdale of UC San Diego. Komar and Dimsdale will receive the award at the annual systemwide Senate Chair’s Dinner following the Academic Council’s final meeting of the year on July 23 in Oakland.
