Hundreds of pie lovers came to campus on Sunday for a taste of KCRW’s 6th Annual Good Food Pie Contest at UCLA's Wilson Plaza, adjacent to the Fowler Museum. Nearly 400 pies by home cooks and professionals alike vied for top honors in seven categories: fruit, savory, cream, cooked custard, nut, vegan and world pies — the last a nod to the Fowler’s global collection of artwork.
KCRW’s Evan Kleiman, host of “Good Food,” presided over the afternoon event, which included music by KCRW DJ Anne Litt, food trucks, activities for kids, an artisan marketplace and, of course, plenty of pie-sampling. Many visitors also stopped into the Fowler for a look at “Textiles of Timor, Island in the Woven Sea” and other current exhibitions.
