Back by popular demand after sold-out houses last summer, the Oscar Wilde classic, “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” will be presented at UCLA’s William Andrews Clark Memorial Library in five performances by the Chalk Repertory Theater, July 25-August 2.
Located in L.A.’s historic West Adams District, the Clark Library, has a notable Oscar Wilde Collection which includes a typewritten copy of “Lady Windermere’s Fan” with Wilde’s handwritten notes from 1892, the year the comedy of manners was first produced.
“Lady Windermere’s Fan" is the latest in the Clark’s “Arts on the Grounds” performing arts series. Audiences will attend Lady Windermere’s coming-of-age party and intimately follow her careful navigation of waves of gossip, as she artfully unravels an intricate web of lies, all presented in the Chalk’s Repertory Theater's signature “immersive style” in which audiences will be moved for each act to a different space on the Clark’s breathtaking lawns and courtyards. .
The opening night performance, on Friday, July 25, is a “pay-what-you-can preview.” Tickets are $25 for performances on July 26 and 27, and August 2 and 3. All performances start at 6 p.m., with the Clark’s gates opening at 5 p.m. for guests to picnic on the library grounds before the show. Bring blankets or lawn chairs and food and beverages in non-breakable containers. Free parking is available.
