George Bohanon of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music was recognized by the Los Angeles Jazz Society with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He and George Bohanon Trio performed at the event where he received the award on Nov. 2.
Bohanon, an adjuct assistant professor of ethnomusicology in the Herb Alpert School of Music, teaches jazz performance and trombone. Bohanon attended Wayne State University and the Detroit Institute of Musical Arts. Bohanon was the first trombonist hired by Motown Records and worked with Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson. He is active in the Los Angeles jazz scene as a performer, producer and writer.
