Professor Stephanie Jamison, a scholar on Sanskrit and Indo-Iranian topics in the department of Asian languages and cultures, was recognized with the publication of a festschrift in her honor, titled “Sahasram Ati Srajas.” The festschrift includes contributions by 45 scholars from major universities in the United States and around the world and a bibliography of her 169 academic publications.
Jamison earned her Ph.D. in 1977 from Yale University, where she was trained as a historical and Indo-European linguist. For many years she has concentrated on Indo-Iranian, especially (Vedic) Sanskrit and Middle Indo-Aryan languages and textual materials. In addition to her work on language and linguistics, she also studies literature and poetics, religion and law, mythology and ritual, and gender studies in these languages, and she is also interested in comparative mythology and poetics, especially with Greek materials.
