UCLA’s Department of Ethnomusicology invites you to a two-day celebration of the traditional music and ritual of Thailand. The event will pay respects to the teachers and musical instruments of native Thailand in UCLA's Jan Popper Theater, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, March 12.
The two-day celebration features performances by an ensemble of musicians from the Luang Pradit Phairoh Foundation of Thailand, as well as Thai ensembles from across the United States.
Honoring the teachers of past and present, the event will recognize the restoration of UCLA’s Thai Musical Instrument Collection. The celebration will include a seminar and muay Thai kickboxing, culminating on the second day with the waikhruu ritual itself.
The two-day event is free of charge and open to the public.
The Jan Popper Theater can be found in UCLA’s Schoenberg Music Building, room 1200.
