Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison, best-selling author of numerous critically acclaimed books, including “An Unquiet Mind” and “Touched with Fire,” will be giving an audience at UCLA a look at her latest book, “Robert Lowell — Setting the River on Fire.” Jamison focused on the life of one of the major poets of the 20th century and examined the relationship among his manic depressive (bipolar) illness, creative genius and character.
Dr. Jamison is a professor of psychiatry and the Dalio Family Professor in Mood Disorders at Johns Hopkins University. Trained at UCLA as a clinical psychologist, she focuses her work on bipolar disorder, a condition she was diagnosed with in early adulthood.
The Friends of the Semel Institute discussion is set for Thursday, March 16, at the Semel Auditorium at UCLA. Check-in will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 7 p.m.
Dr. Michael Gitlin, professor of clinical psychiatry and director of the UCLA Mood Disorders Clinic, will join Jamison in a discussion following her presentation.
