Inspired by experimental performances of the 1960s, “Telethon” is a participatory performance staged in front of a live audience. Join the Hammer Museum for this immersive experience 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 4.
The sounds of dial tones, ringing, voicemail, voices asking about feminism, surprised responses and clicks are projected toward the audience to create a cacophonous illustration of contemporary feminism and connection.
This program is part of the Hammer's Bureau of Feminism initiative — a multifaceted initiative whose overarching objective is to bring a feminist perspective to a range of activities at the museum. The Bureau of Feminism will encompass exhibitions, performances and public programs that reinforce the importance of activism and inquiry, and interrogation in the realm of culture.
“Telethon” will touch upon such topics as speech, embodiment, resistance, erasure and collective consciousness.
Hammer Museum admission is free. Early arrival is recommended.
