UCLA’s Fowler Museum presents a screening of Pema Gellek’s documentary, “The Great Transmission,” in the Lenart Auditorium, 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 8.
“The Great Transmission” explores Tibetan Buddhist knowledge over the 2,500 years of its existence. The film considers the fragility of knowledge in the face of global events, as well as the future of this ancient wisdom. Illuminating the deep love Tibetans have for their endangered culture, the film tells the story of the efforts of countless generations of Buddhist practitioners who made great sacrifices for the sake of knowledge.
Film producer Barry Schieber will introduce the screening and participate in a Q&A afterwards.
Schieber and Gellek are co-directors of the Guna Foundation, a nonprofit production studio that seeks to document the vision, accomplishments and impact of work that attempts to preserve the endangered Tibetan culture.
