Mark Garmaise, a professor of finance in the UCLA Anderson School of Management, will take up the post of dean of the full-time M.B.A. program on July 1, 2014. He succeeds senior associate dean Andrew Ainslie, who has been named the dean of the University of Rochester's Simon Business School.
In announcing Garmaise's appointment, UCLA Anderson Dean Judy Olian said, "In Mark, we have a combination of remarkable talents – an outstanding teacher who is dedicated to his M.B.A. students, and a trailblazing scholar who infuses his teaching with relevant and emerging research findings. Mark is an award-winning instructor and highly respected authority on finance, venture capital and private equity. That combination, and his dedication to UCLA Anderson's M.B.A. program, will assure strong continuing leadership for the Anderson M.B.A. program."
Garmaise studied mathematics and philosophy at Harvard before going on to recieve his Ph.D. in finance from Stanford. Prior to joining UCLA Anderson, he taught at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His research focuses on using empirical data to investigate the effects of asymmetric information and incomplete contracting as they relate to real estate markets and entrepreneurial firms.
