"Ampersand," the bi-weekly e-newsletter from the UCLA Graduate of Education and Information Studies, has been recognized as a best practice in the western United States by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education CASE as part of the organization’s 2014 Awards of Excellence.

The newsletter highlights the top stories appearing on the "Ampersand" website. It was honored for a second year in a row with a Silver Award for outstanding work in the category of Communications & Marketing Programs – External Audience Tabloids and Newsletters.

The "Ampersand" e-newsletter, created and managed by Andres Cuervo, associate director of marketing and annual giving, has been a highly effective way to connect with more than 16,000 members of the GSEIS community, including faculty, students, alumni, policymakers and other stakeholders, with a readership hailing from Beijing to Bakersfield to Buenos Aires.

“We are deeply honored by this recognition from CASE for our efforts in showcasing the pioneering work happening at GSEIS at the intersection of research and policy,” Cuervo said. “In an email environment that’s already cluttered with information, we rethought the standard e-newsletter by focusing on design and tools that empower our readers to easily access and stay connected with the graduate school and UCLA.”

Besides featuring the latest news from GSEIS, the newsletter highlights the school’s presence in national and international media, enables alumni to update their contact information, invites readers to subscribe to Ampersand, and offers the opportunity to stay connected via Facebook and Twitter.
