Associate professor of art Rodney McMillian, who currently has three solo exhibitions in New York and Philadelphia, discusses his work on Thursday, May 12, 7:30 p.m. at the Hammer Museum.
McMillian’s multimedia artistic practice emphasizes his “talent for setting up uncanny relationships among undistinguished objects,” said Art in America. His installations and live performances reflect an overarching concern with the relationships between language, aesthetics and content.
McMillian's current solo exhibitions are at the Studio Museum in Harlem, MoMA PS1 in Long Island City and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. He has also had solo exhibitions at Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions worldwide, including the Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, The California Biennial at the Orange County Museum of Art, and the Sharjah Biennial in the United Arab Emirates.
