The UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) celebrates the 35th anniversary of 1981 film classic “Zoot Suit” with a screening and visit with writer-director Luis Valdez on Thursday, May 19, 7:30 p.m. in the Fowler Museum’s Lenart Auditorium.
“Zoot Suit” is based on actual events from the 1940s: the Sleepy Lagoon murder trial and the Zoot Suit Riots in L.A. Valdez will introduce the film, which will be followed with a discussion moderated by CSRC director Chon Noriega. The event is presented in conjunction with the Fowler exhibition of José Montoya’s “Abundant Harvest: Works on Paper/Works on Life.”
The screening is free and open to the public, but seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
