Elaine Lowry Brye is a mom who knows about letting go. Like many moms, she cried when her kids left home, wishes they’d call and write more, and spends sleepless nights worrying about them. But her tears and concerns are even more poignant because she is the mom of four military officers, one each in the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines. When her kids attended the Naval Academy, Brye joined the Naval Academy Parents’ Listserv and began a 15-year journey of helping moms and dads adjust to their new lives as military parents.
Brye will discuss her book, “Be Safe, Love Mom: A Military Mom's Stories of Courage, Comfort, and Surviving Life on the Home Front” (Public Affairs Books, 2015), at 7 p.m., Monday, May 4 at the James West Alumni Center. The book weaves stories from her life and the lives of other military parents with advice, anecdotes, and wisdom to help guide other moms and dads on the long and bumpy road of having a child in uniform.
A discussion with the audience and book signing follows. Refreshments will be provided. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
